I just wanted to share a personal message to you today incase your feeling a bit “meh”. We all have days like that, don’t we? I know I do!

I remember when I first started wanting to build a future for myself, attending my first lash course and having that vision of where I wanted to go with it. I was told by many, even friends “good luck” but not in a positive, you can do this kind of way. More of a “you’re crazy” kind of way.

Behind my back saying it wouldn’t last, or wouldn’t work. 

But I knew I wanted to work around a family, I wanted to earn on my terms, and eventually I wanted to help others.

Well, look at me now. Lashes changed my life. They wasn’t just a hobby, or something I trained in just to fill time. Taking that course has created a career, and opened up so many amazing opportunities for me. But above all, its ultimately the reason KG Professional exists!

I just wanted to tell you, from one business owner/lash tech to another – Don’t let ANYONE squash your dreams. Let them scare you and do it anyway! If I can do it, you can too.

Over the years I have picked up quite a few tips and figured many out through experience.  Lashing is a skill that I am very proud of but when I started lashing in 2009 the lash industry was in its infancy and there was very little advice or support, boy did I make mistakes, but I didn’t have a mentor to help or train with a company that offered support as we do here at KG Professional.

Lashing is a skill that doesn’t come overnight you have to work at it, just being a good lash artist isn’t the whole thing, it takes time and patience to build a business and client base, whether you are working from home or have your own salon, so if you want to be one of the best put in the groundwork, practice makes perfect, but learn from others as we all started where at the same place.

Here are a few eyelash application tips that I lash by and am happy to pass on, but remember these are just some handy tips, not ‘the process’.

25 Handy Eyelash Application Tips

• Prep before customer arrival, saves time
• Do a thorough lash consultation before you start and take a photograph before & after
• For new clients check patch test and note results for insurance purposes
• Check the customer doesn’t need to use the ladies before you start, time is money
• Check time with the client to make sure she knows how long the appointment will take; you can’t be expected to do a full set of volume in an hour
• Make the customer as comfortable as possible on the beauty bed
• If using tape, make sure you detac well, the warmth of her skin will make the tape stickier
• Check lash symmetry, where the lashes start and end on both eyes, check for gaps and lash amounts
• Clean the whole eye area, use a good primer
• Shake that glue for a good 45 seconds
• Always start on the most difficult eye first
• Work on the inner corners of the eyes first as this is the most challenging area of the eyes
• Map your set, make it easier on you when changing lengths
• Lift the lid when working with layers to check the lashes and placement throughout
• Check for stickies throughout the treatment and at the end
• Use your tape to lift and move skin or separate lashes, make it easy on yourself
• Have everything you need close at hand
• Check room humidity, if you are having trouble with your glue that may be the reason
• Keep an eye on time as talking distracts
• When removing the pads and tape carefully supporting the skin always
• Check the clients lashes for errors before you give her the mirror
• Remind the customer of the after care
• Upsell retail products such as lash shampoos, brushes, lash serums
• Book in her refill appointment
• For new clients follow up with a courtesy call or text the next day, shows excellent customer service

My name is Lisa. I am a Salon Owner, Beauty Therapist, Trainer and Educator for KG Professional. I am married and have 3 children.

What got you started in the beauty industry?

I left school at 16 and went straight to college to study Beauty Therapy for 2 years. After finishing college, I went on to work in a salon in Nottingham for many years then relocated to Mansfield when my manager at that salon left to open her own salon in Mansfield and asked me to go and work for her. I worked there for many years before eventually leaving after having my middle child to start working Self Employed in my home town of Ilkeston to fit around my children. I started outwithout any clients as I had always worked in different areas to my home in a small room above a hairdressers, and worked so hard to build up a well established business and big client base eventually expanding to my own salon with staff and then again to another bigger salon which is beauty and hair.

Last month you saw that we had two new members to our team, Amiee and Hannah. Both girls have had a busy few weeks, with lots of training! So look online for our great training deals whilst they speed up and gain more experience. Thank you to all our clients that have been models for the girls, we couldn’t of done it without you.

We would like to welcome Marie! Marie has over 10 years of industry experience and has just left Champneys after 7 years. So you won’t be disappointed.

This month is a busy one with Olympia fast approaching… We can’t wait to see everyone.. Come and visit us at stand B42. There will lots of show offers and goody bags.

What a crazy month it’s been…..

First of all we completed our first exhibition at the NEC BeautyUK show. Such a busy exciting weekend, it was so lovely to see so many of our customers and introducing ourselves to so many new customers/distributors and students.

We offered training at a local salon in Warwick which very quickly became fully booked. Katie and Jess taught Classic Individual Lashes and Russian Volume, which went down a storm.

We loved training everyone and can’t wait to see their exciting future in Eyelash extensions!

This month our training courses have been super busy, because of this we have introduced some exciting offers!

With every course booked not only do you receive your free training kit you also receive access to our online course worth over £340. With all of this knowledge in class and at home there is no reason why you shouldn’t succeed!

Courses take place at our flagship studio in Bedfordshire and now in Gloucestershire with our fantastic trainer Hayley Mountjoy at The Beauty Spot in Tetbury.
