Who has heard of the 20:20:20 rule?

As beauty therapists and lash artists we focus so much throughout our treatments on the tiny details or tiny lashes that our eyes can get effected. Long periods of concentration can make our eyes defocus, go blurry and get tired effecting the rest of your treatments that day. Even if you wear glasses this can still happen.

So how does the 20:20:20 rule work?

Every 20 minutes you take a break. Look up out of the window or in front of you, look at something 20 meters away for 20 seconds.
This will then readjust you’re vision and your focus helping your eyes not to get as tired ready for all them sets of lashes you have for the rest of the day.

Most of the time in our industry we put so much pressure on ourselves to make sure we are on time for our clients. In the time we have for their treatment we want to fill up their lash extensions as much as possible we don’t want to stop. But this only takes 20 seconds to do and will help you so much.

Please introduce yourself, and tell the readers about your beauty training experience?

My name is Christine, I am Canadian but have lived in the UK since I was a teenager. I went to boarding school, then straight into nursing when I was 18, qualifying as a nurse when I was 21. I have lived in Essex and North London most of my life. I have worked in various other jobs in London, Sky TV, Advertising and the recording industry, but now I retrained into the beauty industry and now happily in the right career, I have remarried and living in Milton Keynes.

What got you started in the beauty industry?

In 2008 I left my 1st husband, sadly the marriage just wore out (but we are still friends). I wanted to support myself and needed to learn something quickly so I could do that. I have always loved beauty and make up and came across lash extensions through my beauty therapist who told me it’s “The next big thing” but there weren’t many companies offering lashes or training in lashes. I eventually found a company in Essex trained and qualified with them in 2009. In those days when lashes first came to the UK lashes came in little bags and there were only a few curvatures to choose from, you needed to use cross tweezers to pick up the lashes; the lash industry was in its infancy. In 2012 I heard about the new Russian Volume technique and I just had to learn how to do this, even though we trained with thicker lashes than we use today for Volume, it was ‘all about the fan.’

You will have previously qualified in Classic Lash Extensions and will be ready to progress onto the higher skilled Volume technique where you will create lash fans by hand. There are several techniques that I will teach you and you can choose the one that suits you the most to help you create these lashes. All customers want the most beautiful lashes that are suited to their eye shape, lash amounts and this is what I will teach you. We will practice with various lash thicknesses and curvatures and theory in the morning and after lunch we will work on a live model. Not everyone can wear the same lashes, I will teach you how to perform a lash design consultation for every one of your clients no matter what age or ethnicity they are, your lash design will suit them perfectly, and this will set you apart from other lashers.

Which of KG’s professional beauty products do you recommend and which could you not live without?

For me it’s the lashes and the glues.
